3.1 UI “improvements”: LFG & Equipment Manager

It looks like a couple of the UI “improvements” described on WoW’s Under Development page are going to have an effect on druids in 3.1.

LFG: One of the more interesting things for the Looking For Group/Looking for More menu is the banner at the top which says:

  • I can fulfill the role of: Damage       Tank        Healer

If none of the boxes are clicked, it says “you must select one or more roles before you can join LFG/LFM”. It will, however, let you click all three of the boxes if you are willing to damage, tank and/or heal. With dual specs coming in, you can easily queue up for an instance while saying you are willing to do any of those roles. That should reduce the number of times you will get asked to fill a role you can’t or don’t want to do. Then again, I always put what role I was willing to do in the comment box that’s always been there, and if people chose not to read it, I knew they were not worth going with, anyway.

Equipment Manager: With the new dualspec system comes the need to effortlessly swap between multiple sets of gear. Blizzard has implemented thier first in-game “item rack” equipment manager feature. For all of us that have been using mods to do the same thing for YEARS, it’s not really that big of a change at all.

However, one of the features they advertise is the ability to: Pull items directly from your backpack or bank.

Right now on the current PTR build, it only lets you swap things from your bags and the whole bank half of it is not quite functional yet. If the equipment you want to put on is in the bank, you’re essentially out of luck, because even standing at the bank with the bank tabs open, it won’t equip the gear.

I’m hoping that’s a bug which will get fixed before it goes live, but don’t plan on storing your ‘off-set’ or fishing gear in the bank any time soon, as the features page even states: Players will need to be at the bank when swapping between sets if the gear is located in the bank. So, if/when the feature is working correctly, it won’t even reduce the number of items you’ll have to carry around with you all the time if you want to be able to swap gear sets anywhere except standing in the bank.

We’ll have to wait longer for something to reduce the number of items filling up our bags, but I’m used to only having one partially empty bag and I still have my bank packed full of all sorts of items…  At least you have one less addon to download, right?

So true, Liss… Every time I use LFG to queue for an instance, I put in the comment box what role I can fill – or if it’s an alt that’s pretty obvious (hunter, rogue) I skip that part… but in every case I put these words:

“SEND TELL BEFORE INVITING OR MY MOD WILL AUTO-DECLINE.”

If they don’t read that and waste their time spamming me with group invites that I can’t even accept because the box never comes up (thanks to Anti-Invite), I sure didn’t want to go with them to begin with 😉
