Swipe: I can hit you with mah tail!

It looks like they took out the positional requirement of swipe for bears, so you will be able to hit things behind you or to the sides. I also tested this on a testing dummy in ironforge, and I can swipe the target with my tail touching it, so yes, I can swipe you with my tail!

Thus, swipe is becoming more like the warrior’s whirlwind, and should probably have the same range.

This seems like a huge buff to bear form tanking. No longer do you have to worry about having the exact right positioning for tanking multiple mobs! However, some people are pointing out range problems for the new swipe, which may or may not be a bug.

Disclaimer: You should not try tanking by facing away from your targets, anyway. *wink*

In addition, Pounce now only shares diminishing returns with rogue’s Cheap Shot stun, instead of all stuns.

    So shall it be called?

    Bearstorm – Bladestorm for bears.
    Bearwind – Whirlwind for bears.
    Swipewind – no fun.
Ama Kakeru Ryu no Hirameki – Just because.

I disagree that you shouldn’t worry at all about positioning when it comes to tanking multiple mobs. Unless you are running a lowbie instance and starved of rage, and damage intake is not high, a tank should still try to maintain having mobs in front of them.

You can’t dodge from behind. Dodge = more rage (with talents.) and reduction of damage. As druids don’t have as many mitigation factors as other class tanks, making the most of the ones they have is important. When taking a lot of damage from multiple mobs, I feel it is best to try to reduce damage intake as much as possible. Therefore it would be wise to try to position mobs regardless of being able to swipe mobs from behind. I think that is just an extra factor for being able to grab aggro.

I think the point is that you do not have to worry about positioning just to hit the button.

As a tank you should not let the mobs get behind you. However given the AI of the mobs and latency, the server thinks you are somewhere else than where it looks like you are to you. Because of this the mobs move around and currently if you don’t time it just right you miss them. Now it will be easier which I for one am happy about.

I didn’t mean that you shouldn’t ever care about positioning for tanking, I just meant that you don’t have to worry about having the exact positioning to make sure swipe hit them. It’s going to work more like the other tanks, where it helps if you’re facing the AOE mobs, but being 2 degrees out of positioning isn’t going to get the healer killed from pulling something that wasn’t getting swiped.

I’ll add a disclaimer to my original post, lol.
